Ahh college homecoming the time when we can all pretend that we are back in our university days and therefore think that we can stay up drinking till 5 am. Well I failed that test with flying colors. And the sad thing is I wasn't even in town for the whole weekend.
On Saturday I drove up to Waco to meet up with friends and watch the game well sort of... You see our favorite bar always sets up a huge tent outside the stadium and during homecoming mostly everyone stays in the tent. So there we were arriving at the tent at 2 pm reconnecting with everyone and starting to have a few drinks. Now I should point out that weather.com completely failed me this weekend! I had my whole wardrobe planned out because stupid weather.com told me the high was going to be 70. When I drove into town it was 85 and I was wearing a sweater. My only other option was to change and it was only to change into a tank and a jacket. So combine the tent in the sun, the drinking, being hot in a jacket and the drinks well they hit me hard.
After we left the tent it just didn't stop, we all went to eat to where they serve the best margaritas in town. We quickly went to change for our night out and since I thought it was still going to be hot I just put a cute little shrug over my tank. That decision would later come back to bite me in the ass. After our quick change we went to our favorite bar and met up with some other alumni and some more drinks. Now if we were smart we would have stayed there but we aren't. At about 10 pm we decided to change locations and go to another bar and there was a line but we thought we could wait it out. The line turned out to be two hours long and the weather decided to take a turn and it got cold. I mean really cold. Okay cold for Texas, so about 50 degrees but remember I was in a tank top with a little measly covering! My friends not to be deterred from the wait of the line did the next best thing went to the corner store and bought beer to drink while we waited in line. Genius? I think so. (there were other bars but they had long lines as well)
Cut to two hours later and we are in the bar having a grand old time. There was talking and laughing and running into guys that I had made out with in the past. Yeah, that was fun. At around 1 am I started to get tired and so did my friend Emily so we met up with of our other friends and ended up at some guy's parents house. Now this is where it gets good so pay attention. Are you paying attention? Excellent.
It is now 2:30 am and I'm exhausted so my bright idea is to lay down in this guys game room halfway under his pool table to shield my eyes from the light. Apparently this is the place where I passed out. I had been there for awhile I suppose and this guy, ever the Texas gentleman, escorted me to one of his parents guest rooms. At around 4 am I woke not knowing where in the world I was, and I started looking around franticly for clues. Then it all came back to me and I got up to go look for Emily. She was nowhere to be found but I knew she was still somewhere in the house because I saw her shoes (girl would never leave without her shoes) and also because I had driven. I thought to myself I could go on looking for her but then we would have to go back to her brothers apartment where we would have to share a full size bed or I could back to that nice guest room. GUEST ROOM IT IS! I stumbled back to the room and passed out yet again.
At about 8:30 I woke up because I had to go the bathroom. I slowly opened the door and noticed that this guys parents were awake and in the living room. Needless to say I freaked out! What was I supposed to do go out there and introduce myself? "Hi... um... I met your son last night and he let me stay the night, but don't worry I mean nothing happened. In fact I don't even know where he is, maybe he is with my friend Emily! Would you help me look for them? And by the way you have a lovely home. " I think not. I took the chicken approach and I ran across the hall to the bathroom and then went back to the guest bedroom and passed out again for the third time. I awoke at about 11:00 and decided okay it's all or nothing and prepared for the worst. Thank goodness the parents weren't there in the living room but I still had the problem of finding my friends. So there I am in this big house calling out my friends names in a loud whisper. I turned a corner and that is when I saw the staircase. I swear it was like magic because it wasn't there the night before. I was also sure that had I kept searching I would have stumbled into Narnia after finding a magic wardrobe. As soon as I started climbing the stairs I heard my friends voices and then we left without some awkward run in with this guys parents. I felt like I doged a bullet with that one and also I AM TO OLD FOR THIS!
And that my friends was my college homecoming weekend in a nutshell. I'm tired just telling it all over again.
