Oh my goodness I can't begin to even start to tell you the amount of fun that was had on my Denver trip. Some highlights include shopping, taking pictures of the mountains, one going away party, and a dance off. Oh yes a DANCE OFF! I am proud to say that I was the one involved in said dance off but we will get to that later on in this post.
The true reason I came up here was because my good friend Jenny was going to drive back to San Antonio from Denver by herself and I told her that I would fly up and then drive back down to Texas with her. It was discussed at length last night and determined that I am indeed entitled to a one gold star... I wanted a gold medal but the judges said I would have to save her life in order to get the medal. I'm working on it.
So I flew up to Denver on Wednesday evening and then went for a sushi dinner with Jenny her boyfriend David and my friend Brian. The best part about this dinner was the waitress. We got to the restaurant about ten minutes before it was going to close but in our defense we asked the staff if it was to late and they said they would serve us. So our waitress was literally running around closing the store and trying to serve us. It was like dinner and a show.
The following day Jenny and I decided to do some shopping. Isn't it always when you have money and you want to buy stuff is when you can't find ANYTHING! I thought our trip was going to be a total waste but then we found these! Jenny and I always joke about having flasks but we didn't actually own any. Problem solved. That evening the same group plus Jenny's sister Kerri and her husband (who has an awesome accent) went to dinner and a movie.
Now Friday night is when it all went down. Jenny was in Denver for the summer spending time with her sister and boyfriend and Friday was her last night in town. David (her boyfriend) decided to throw her a surprise going away party. It started out with dinner and then we since we were already downtown we decided to do our own impromtu pub crawl... except to do that you must do to different bars and well we didn't. We tried but it was just hectic. We should have stayed at this place but we didn't and ended up wandering around downtown until the girls asked nay demanded that we go dancing.
The group ended up at a place called The Church which is an old church that has been turned into a club. I was a little uncomfortable with this place but one long island iced tea later and I had no qualms. I don't ever really go to clubs it's just not my thing and this club was a little eccentric. It had 3 rooms broken up into 2 floors. There is a techno room where girls danced on big blocks (much to the guys delight i might add), then there was the rap room, and then third is what we came to call the thespian room. The thespian room was were all the... ahem colorful people congregated. For instance here is a picture of Jenny myself and Kerri now notice the girl in the left hand corner of the photograph. That is a pleather bra she is sporting.
Need I say more?
In this thespian room was a guy who was dancing with one hand behind his back and the other looked as if he was fencing. Brian told me if I went to dance with him that he would buy me a drink. Now who am I to turn down a challenge. I started off by dancing by myself and then I started my own "fencing" technique and I tried to fence with him he was having none of it. Jenny was offered her own challenge by Brian to try to dance behind him but fencing man wasn't having any of that either.
We then headed over to the rap room and started dancing the night away. When Justin Timberlake's new song came on we might have started screaming. We started dancing like it was our job and we were up for a promotion. After awhile my friend Hal yelled DANCE OFF and I rose to the occasion. That's right Hal and I had a dance off. I have seen pictures of this dance off and lets just say i can never run for office and those pictures must be DESTROYED! It's not pretty. Who did I think I was Lindsay Lohan?
Here are some pictures of that night.
It really was a great night. I had so much fun I felt like I didn't have a care in the world and we were celebrating someone's 21st birthday... even though we are all in our upper twenties and early thirties. The only bad part was waking up early to drive 16 hours with a slight hangover. NOT FUN!
It actually wasn't that bad of a drive and we broke it up into two days.
The Drive in pictures.
Leaving Denver
Whenever I see places like this I often think about the book Atlas Shrugged that I started 3 years ago and how I never finished it.It reminds of this book because there is part where they are in a run down warehouse looking for parts. I really should get back to that book but it is soooooooo long!
Entering New Mexico
Then Texas.. Boo!
Unfortunately the rest of our drive (the next 10 hours) looked like this.
Flat dry land
And then we were home.
All the pictures from my trip are here.
