I will never forget my first snow storm when I lived in New York. The day before was a Friday and I had been walking around Madison Avenue and it was 60 degrees. The sun was shining everyone was outside and it was just altogether a very beautiful day. The following day it dropped from 60 degrees to 20 and everyone was getting ready for the snow storm that the weatherman was predicting to arrive in the evening.
I remember walking home from the gym and seeing the first snow flurries starting to fall around me. I had to go home, get my laundry and take it to the corner to get it washed for me. (That could be one of the things I miss the most is the people who did my laundry and folded it for me all for about 12 dollars.) From the ten minutes I was in my apartment getting my stuff together, the snow was already gathering on the sidewalk and everything was starting to turn white and looking so beautiful. I remember running inside and yelling to my roommate, Matt, to look out the window. We were like little kids in awe of what was happening outside. The streets that were so crowded were deserted and the snow that was accumulating was truly amazing. Every once in awhile Matt and I would climb on my bed and look outside my window to get a better view of the snow falling on the street, on the cars, on the trees, on everything. It took my breath away. At that moment in time I remembered when I was five seeing snow for the first time. There really was no place else I would rather have been then standing there with Matt looking outside that window at the street below me. Our hands pressed against the cold glass and just being silent. Watching.
Seeing the pictures on the news of the snow storm that has recently swept New York, I am so sad I ever left that wonderful place.
Matt ventured outside and walked to Times Square and Central Park to capture these 2 pictures
The day after the snow storm
My Street
Garden next to my apartment building
Central Park Matt and I went sledding like the little kids we are.
I would just like to point out in these next pictures that
Matt and I are the only adults sledding among children.
Also is just me or do I look like a midget in this picture?
The worst snowman ever because Matt and I are from Texas and between 2 college degrees we could not figure out how to make a snowman.
I just want to say that as I was reading this post and looking at the pictures, I started to cry. Literally. Have a kleenex in my lap right now. I miss those snow storms and I never thought I'd say that...
