It's been awhile

So I was in California last week. I wasn't in the sunny ocean side of California that everyone thinks of, I was  in the snowy mountains by to the Oregon border California. I flew in from California on Tuesday night and  somehow I contracted the plague.  Boo. I woke up this morning with my throat so swelled up  that I'm surprised I can breathe.  Until I can actually form a normal post here are some pictures that I took on my trip.

I have readily admitted that I am a girly girl and it has been on more then one occasion that Slynnro and I have emailed back and forth about skin cleansers, foundations, pressed powders and other things. I normally leave the beauty post up to her because she does such a good job of giving the pros and cons of a product. I will take her advice on pretty much anything beauty related because I know she has done her research.
It is with much hesitation that I am about to give my first beauty review but I can’t stop talking about it! What has gotten me into such tizzy? Prescriptives Custom Blend foundation and powder. I have been a fan of the prescriptives brand for quite some time but for the first time ever I tried the custom blend products. My skin is not all one color as I have slight redness and some scars from acne. (Gosh I wish I had listened to my mother when she said don’t pick.) Anyways over all my face is naturally smooth and I get the occasional breakout but mostly it’s of the tiny bump variety so I don’t need a lot of coverage but I do need some. I am a hard core fan of MAC concealer but I don’t like their foundation because when I wear it I feel like I look like a clown because my face is so heavy.
I went to the prescriptives counter and I said I would like to try the custom blend foundation and powder. It really has been the best decision I have made make up wise. I have received more complements on my skin this past week that I started to feel like a super model… well not really but you get my point. I am covered but you can’t even tell and the custom powder is a miracle. I wanted that just washed fresh faced look and that is exactly what I got. The whole process took about 45 minutes to an hour but it is worth the time. I mistakenly thought that every prescriptives counter had the custom blend counter but I was wrong! If you are going to get the custom blend mix make sure they can do it there, because in all of San Antonio there are only two places to have it done.
The product itself will last a long time and they even give you a travel size of the foundation and if you get the loose powder they will give you a travel size of that as well. If you want a pressed powder it cost $15.00 extra. I got the loose powder and I think it will last me about a year it is so big so I know I’m getting my moneys worth.
Again I have to put in the disclaimer that this is what works best for my skin and yours could be different but you never know unless you try.

I'm just glad I didn't supersize

I shouldn't have gone. I didn't want to go. I wanted to just stay in my bed and watch TV. I should have listened to my gut. In retrospect I knew how the night was going to end up and I guess I like to torture myself because I went anyway. I'm talking about New Year's Eve. 

We really didn't have a plan. My friends and I were scattered all over the city and we had yet to make a plan and the hours were closing in on the midnight hour. Finally it was decided, dinner at someones house and then we hit the town. I was tentative about going especially since this "someone" was the same guy who texted me how much he missed me and how he wanted to go out and then proceeded to hit on another girl. IN. FRONT. OF. ME. 

Against my better judgment I went. I showed up looking fabulous and smiling all the while thinking I wonder if I can fake a migraine and go home. A glass of champagne later and I was smiling for real. (I'm a cheap date.) Dinner was wonderful and before I knew it we were getting into cars to head out for the rest of the nights festivities. We got to the bar and everyone got more champagne some old friends of mine from high school joined us and I was feeling more relaxed.

Don't I look happy there? And my hair looks fabulous if I do say so myself! (I would like to thank whoorl) Yeah the night took a downward spiral after that picture was taken.

The clock struck midnight and everyone grabbed their significant other and started making out. Me? I ordered a martini. I turned around and saw the guy making out with the other girl and then they were holding hands the rest of the evening. I can't even say I liked him because to be honest I didn't and I still don't. If he had properly asked me out I would have said no. It was too late though my pride was hurt and I felt like I lost. What did I lose? I'm not exactly sure, but that is how I felt. And to a girl who really isn't even that cute in my opinion. In fact I want to give her a makeover and tell her that red lipstick she wears really doesn't go with her skin tone. (Wow that sounds petty.) I quickly said my goodbyes and headed home. 

On the way home I got hungry and since there is a Whataburger right by my place I decided to stop. I wasn't the only one who had this idea because the line was long. I received a text message from my best friend Jenny (who lives in Colorado) asking me how my new year's eve went and that is when the tears just started to flow. So of course I called her and I couldn't even talk. Jenny to her credit let me get it all out and then she started laughing. It was then that I started laughing through my tears. I won't tell you what our conversation was about but it was on the verge of pathetic... on my part.  It was at this time that I realized my mascara was running down my face and I was doing the ugly cry and I was trying to order and I had to repeat my order twice because the guy couldn't understand what I was saying during my big gulps of air.  I then drove to the first window. The guy sees my tear stained cheeks and very calmly says that will be $5.60. I meekly say okay and I can just hear jenny laughing on the phone. I drive to the next window grab my food and drive home. I have vowed to never go there again because they may recognize me.

So that is how I spent the first few hours of 2008 crying into my french fries and chicken fingers. Now lets never speak of this incident again.

Under Pressure

After my last post and me declaring to the world that I was going to be a bit more deeper in my blogging efforts I feel a huge weight on my shoulders now that every word I write should be fraught with meaning. Now I have stressed myself out and no one likes to feel stressed because well it just ages you.

I actually have several post started but I have yet to finish them as always. You can blame the ADD because that is what I do. Today's post is going to be sort of lay over if you will.

Over the weekend I went to Austin to visit with my friend Emily who is down here for a conference. My friend Dave came with me and we had lunch and just visited for a few hours. It was on the way home that Dave and I were talking about some of our favorite things that makes us happy and all that jazz. I thought I would share my list and if you care to share yours well that would be just lovely.

1. Watching snow fall. I know that might sound weird but mostly it all stems back to this memory.

2.  I love Christmas.

3. In July my family always has a family reunion and we go to the beach and we rent about 5 condos and just have a great time eating, laughing, playing board games, swimming and playing with water guns. Yes even the adults. It's a great time.

4. When you are entering a room and the guy you are seeing places his hand on the small of you back. That will always bring a smile to my face.

5. I love watching my little cousins (the closest thing I have to nieces and nephews since I'm only child) discover something new. To see their little faces get so excited always warms my heart.

6.  Watching a thunderstorm.

7. Getting lost in a great book.

8. A good conversation over a bottle of wine.

9. I love visiting New York in the fall. The air is so crisp and the leaves are changing and there just seems to be this great feeling around the city.

10. I love finding a great bargain.

11. And my new recent great love is Thailand I have fallen in love with that country, and I'm sure that whenever I travel the rest of southeast Asia I will  fall in love all over again.

Times they are a changing

First of all what do you think of the new look? Yes? No? Ehh?

This is the first of many changes that will be going on here at Everything I say is fascinating. I got Photoshop CS3 for Christmas so hopefully I will learn how to use it soon and I will have a whole new customized banner.  Which is code for look for a new banner sometime in June.

Over the past week I have been thinking about this blog and where exactly I want it to go. I have been going through my archives and realizing that some of the things I posted where just plain stupid and yet there were some post that I'm pretty proud of and other ones just made me laugh. Although while reading I did notice something, my post were all over the board. I write about my singleness, some of the crazy stuff I do and the places that I travel but there really isn't anything that ties it all together. I have been blogging for a long time and maybe it is just that I am getting older but I feel like my writings should take on a certain theme.The problem is I don't know what exactly that theme should be.

I know I like to write about the funny day to day things that happen because sometimes I do some pretty stupid stuff but I think I want to take things a bit deeper. I guess I am going to be opening up a bit more on this site. Now rest assured I'm still going to have my Classic Melissa category because lets face it I'm not going to stop doing dumb things.

NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER BUY YOUR PARENTS ANY KIND OF ELECTRONICS! I have spent the better part of my days yelling into the phone how to work the ipod I got my mother. Not to mention the 30 minutes conversation I just had with her on how turn the volume up on her computer.
